The 2025 NJYS Double Reed Camp has come and gone!
Thank you so much to our 2 sponsors of this camp Charles Double Reeds & KraftGeek for supporting this program. Charles Double Reeds created the reed making & adjusting kits for students to purchase at a discount, and KraftGeek donated 2 incredible products (the Tap to Open Phone Tripod & Music Stand Lite) for our mock audition prizes! The winners are featured in the final picture, congrats to Thalia for winning and to Sid as the runner up! The students all participated in many small ensemble performances of bassoon & oboe trios & quartets (featuring TWO students playing contra), along with a full camp work of “Married Life” from the movie Up arranged by our wonderful oboe faculty Quinten Hansen!
Students also took part in a reed making curriculum that yielded 2-3 playable reeds created by each student! All bassoonists and a few oboes performed on their own reeds on our final performance!
Lastly, we hosted a “Final Hour” special topic each evening with a Faculty Recital, Auxiliary Instrument Petting Zoo on Contra & English Horn, Life/Career Q&A, Mock Audition, Cueing Olympics, Trivia & Pictionary for the students.
This year was a wonderful success, and I look forward to future iterations!
